Denis SultaDenis Sulta
2017 is Denis Sulta’s year. Fresh from being the highest placed new entry on RA’s DJs of 2016 poll and the widely-acclaimed release of his Nein Fortiate/Dubelle Oh XX EP, the first on his own Sulta Selects label, Denis Sulta is already searing his name into the UK club scene. Like his part-mentor Jackmaster, Barbour learnt the ropes in Glasgow’s Rubadub records before releasing a first EP of darker techno as Altus on New York’s Mister Saturday Night Records in 2015.
The switch to his Sulta alias saw a shift towards more upbeat, sleeker climes with a brighter and bigger sound that mixed proggy techno-house with smart vocal samples and gliding synths – earning support from tastemakers like Ben UFO and Four Tet in the process. His breakout hit 'It’s Only Real' on Numbers was followed by a couple of no-prisoners 12” on Dixon Avenue Basement Jams and slots at Space Ibiza, the Warehouse Project and his own Glasgow residency, Sulta Sheikh Down.
